Tactile means touch. People with with sensory processing issues can be over- or under-sensitive to touch.
At Experia, we understand tactile stimulation and touch. Exploring the world through touch is a key component to our room design and product creation. For some individuals their only means of communication is through their touch receptors. Much of our equipment is designed with touch as the instigator to manipulate an environment. From encouraging an appropriate use of touch we can often foster the skill toward other uses such as writing, eating or communication. With interactive bubble tubes, strands of fiber optics or tactile panels and interactive walls, we encourage exploration.
Sensory products that offer a visual or auditory reward for tactile interaction can help to encourage those hyper-sensitive to touch to engage, and if the reward is strong enough to turn the experience from a negative into a positive one, it can help to rewire the brain into accepting unusual textures.
