Gross Motor

Gross Motor Skills refers to the abilities required in order to control the large muscles of the body for running, walking, sitting, crawling, swimming and other activities involving moving yourself through the environment. The basic skill of movement begins very early during infancy. Though we may assume it is a childhood developmental need, the truth is that motor development is beneficial throughout our lives. A multi-sensory environment can help in both physical therapy and in encouraging gross motor development in a safe, secure, non-competitive environment. A dedicated soft play room is a wonderful place to develop gross motor skills, sensory integration, co-ordination and control. An interactive soft play environment where users receive audial or visual rewards for movement and interaction can provide additional motivation to even the most reluctant user. Within the confines of a safe and secure, yet highly interactive and responsive environment, the practicing of gross motor movements is highly rewarded and so more easily encouraged and developed.
