Speech & Language Development
Speech and Language development - Speech and language are used to communicate with others.
For those with Autism, ASD and severe learning difficulties, speech and language can be delayed, or considered by the individual to be unimportant. For others, selective mutism or stammering may be a symptom of abuse or other psychological needs, or a brain injury may have damaged the regions of the brain responsible for speech and language. For those with specific physical differences such as a cleft palate, they may have difficulty producing certain sounds. These individuals can benefit from other people in their life understanding that they may have other preferred forms of communication, but in the wider world, this is not always possible.
