Experts Medical Projects Co. is one of the leaders in supplying speciality scientific medical innovations and medical educational technology to a large customer base. They are an experienced and highly reputable company based in Doha, Qatar. One of their latest projects was to provide a multi-sensory room at Hamad International Airport to create a safe and fun space for children with special needs travelling through the airport. Working alongside their long-term partner Experia, a UK business with a long-standing name in the field of sensory integration rooms, they set to work on creating the perfect airport sensory room.
After several consultations, The Lagom and Ascendo packages were chosen with an additional Interactive Floor System. The Lagom sensory environment introduces a wider range of interactive products in order to continue to inspire the imagination. Each item in the room comes with its own wireless controller to allow multiple users to be engaged at the same time. The Musical Touchwall features a wide range of modes and sounds enabling number, colour and shape recognition, through to tracking and reactionary activities.
The Ascendo is a soft play package that has been designed to encourage the user to move in a variety of ways by going up, down, in and out. However, it’s a great area to let off steam, anxiety or work on life skills.
The final outcome was an Experia airport sensory room to be proud of! It provides a respite area for people with special needs to go and relax when the hustle and bustle of an airport atmosphere feels overwhelming. This sensory room creates a calming environment and is an effective distraction for users with emotional and behavioural difficulties or nervous and anxious travellers.
The versatility of the room means that it can be tailored to all abilities, interests and needs. The room provides a range of features that can engage all the senses from visual to auditory, tactile to olfactory and vibration.
Everyone involved with the project was happy with the finished airport sensory room. Eng. Mohammad Salaymeh, The Rehab Division Manager, said “This will be a great addition to the airport, and I don’t think any other airport has considered children with special needs accessibility in the same way. Yes, of course, we would recommend Experia to everyone; the quality of support that comes with their items is fantastic .”
